There are more than 50 churches in Rutland to discover.  The most famous of all perhaps, is Normanton Church, which is actually no longer a church but a museum.  The history how Normanton Church came to sit on the shores of Rutland Water is fascinating and well worth finding out about.  Open to visitors from April to October, the exhibits and displays within the museum tell the story of life before the reservoir.

One of Rutland’s more infamous churches is Stoke Dry Church, near Uppingham.  It is said that the Gun Powder plot was hatched here.  Over in Brooke, the church of St Peter was made famous when it was filmed for Pride and Prejudice.

All Saints Church
in Oakham, features a 14th Century tower and spire which reached 162 feet high.
