How to Get Here

Thanks to its central location at the heart of England, Rutland is well served by a number of airports.  The nearest commercial airport is East Midlands Airport, approximately 38 miles away from Oakham at Castle Donington in North Leicestershire.  Alternative airports which are within a reasonable drive-time are Birmingham, Luton and Stansted.  London Heathrow lies just a couple of hours drive to the south.

In addition, there are many local hard and grass flying strips serving single and twin engined aircraft.  These can be found in and just over the county border.  Locations include Shacklewell Farm near Ketton, Spanhoe Airfield near Uppingham, Deenthorpe Airfield in Corby and Leicestershire Aero Club.  There are several private farm strips in Rutland allowing visitors to land (with prior permission); please see the Pooley's Guide for airfields, available for purchase by all private pilots in the UK.

For visitors arriving by helicopter, Rutland has a number of convenient helipads available.

Most parts of Rutland lie within the RAF Cottesmore MATZ "Military Air Traffic Zone" and all visiting aircraft and helicopters should call RAF Cottesmore for MATZ penetration on 130.20 (one three zero decimal two zero)
