Things to Do

The historic Oakham Castle is located just off Market Place in Oakham and is the perfect place to browse round, whether it’s raining or not!  It is an excellent example of domestic Norman architecture and has some fascinating features and a tranquil atmosphere.

There is lots to see at the Castle; not least over 200 horseshoes which hang from the walls, giving the Castle a character all of its own.  There’s also a gift shop which sells souvenirs and books, an information point where members of the Castle staff are based, and information on other local attractions which might be of interest.

The Castle is a very popular wedding venue and its picturesque setting makes for some wonderful photo opportunities. 

Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 10.30 to 5pm and Sunday 1pm to 5pm.  Please note that the Castle is closed on Sundays during the winter period (3 November 08 to 8 March 09)
