Walking at Rutland Water is both a popular and enjoyable pastime. The 25 mile shoreline around the reservoir is accessible for all, with generally flat tracks enabling everyone to enjoy a stroll and car parks and toilets conveniently situated at useful points.
Walking around the reservoir, there is much scenery to enjoy and admire. From the views over the reservoir to the quiet tracks which meander around the shore, it rarely feels crowded.
There’s so much wildlife to spot on a walk round that it might take longer than first imagined; from bird life to wildlife, and even the odd sheep at times!
At Normanton, the Waters Edge Café is a friendly retreat, and serves food and refreshments as well as featuring panoramic views over the water.
At Whitwell, the Harbour Bar and Café serves light lunches and snacks as well as drinks and ice creams. This café is a good place to view the Rutland Belle as it sets sail from Whitwell Harbour.
There are also Fox snack kiosks dotted around the reservoir, so for those who prefer to keep walking, grab an ice cream or cold drink on the way past.
