Horse riding is an exhilarating sport and Rutland is the perfect place to try it in the most picturesque of surroundings. There are a number of bridleways which wind their way through the county and provide the perfect opportunity for horses – and their riders, to enjoy a change of scene.
Ride Welland
Ride Welland is an organisation which is concerned with developing equestrian tourism and leisure opportunities throughout the Welland sub-region. Ride Welland sees the Welland sub-region as becoming a destination of choice for equestrian tourism and so Rutland, as part of the region, has a part to play in this, which can only be good news for horse riders. For more information on the organisation, go to http://ridewelland.blogspot.com
TROT
Increasingly, roads are becoming more difficult to ride on and more dangerous. In order to address this issue, Ride Welland is working with TROT (Toll Ride Off-road Trust) to encourage landowners to give horse riders wider access to safer, off road riding. For more information go to www.tollrides.org.uk
Riding Centres
Stretton Riding & Training Centre teaches dressage, cross country and show jumping, as well as proving instruction for BHS exams. The centre specialises in catering for nervous riders.
Horse and Rider B&B
Taking a horse on holiday is becoming a popular way of enjoying a break with a trusted companion and is easily arranged in Rutland. One farm offering this facility already is Home Farm in Ayston, which offers visitors stabling facilities for their horse as well as bed and breakfast accommodation for the rider.
