A refined yet relaxed boutique hotel in the heart of Rutland’s beautiful countryside. Close to Rutland Water and the undulating hills of England’s smallest county, this former 17th Century farmhouse is an idyllic retreat for anyone wishing to escape.

Lovingly restored and at the head of a tree lined avenue, Barnsdale is located to the North of Oakham, has undergone a recent refurbishment and is now the newest addition to The Signet Collection.

Step into one of our colourful, warm and inviting bedrooms or suites. The Barnsdale’s 45 bedrooms are perfect for a weekend in the country. Choose from a range of room types, including twin rooms, family rooms and the stunning Fort Henry Suite.

Designed for privacy and with relaxed luxury in mind, Rutland Retreats is a collection of two and three-bed self-catering accommodations created using natural and sustainable materials with architectural detailing throughout.

Ideal for families, each Retreat comprises a master bedroom and one or two additional bedrooms. The master bedroom has an ensuite shower room, double wardrobe and French doors opening onto the garden. The additional bedrooms both have built-in wardrobes and doors opening out to the private gardens and share a family bathroom.

Rutland Retreats is adjacent to The Barnsdale and within easy walking distance, therefore guests can take advantage of the hotel’s on-site facilities including the bar, lounge and restaurant, at any time of the day (advance booking is recommended to avoid disappointment).

Dining is available in one of the three dining rooms, including our very own 1760 Brasserie.

With a timeless environment and a sensational menu, our laid-back brasserie 1760  – named after the year the original hunting lodge was built here at Barnsdale – is the place to enjoy good times and exceptional food with friends and family. Open for lunch 12-2pm and dinner 6:30-9pm.

Sensational food and drink are at the heart of The Barnsdale experience. As well as our brasserie 1760, a great choice of lighter bites is available in The Orangery and Courtyard. Afternoon Tea is available 2:30-4pm

Wedding packages, conferences, product launches and private parties take place in the separate banqueting suite and The Barnsdale can cater for up to 180 guests.
