We are delighted to welcome Melanie from Mel’s Mosaics to Rutland Garden Village in Ashwell for a half day session learning the art of ‘pique assiete’ mosaics – this literally translates as ‘stolen from plates’. If you love vintage china – better yet, if you have some china of your own that you’d like to repurpose or perhaps to create a memory project to remind you of someone special – this is the workshop for you! Melanie will provide all the tools & materials necessary for you to create your own mosaic ready to take home, finish and hang on the wall – or give as a gift!
On this workshop you will be provided with base templates, plus a selection of china, tools, glue and other bits and pieces. Participants are encouraged to bring along any china/other items that they want to incorporate into their mosaic. They can expect to produce one or perhaps two pieces ready for grouting by the end of the workshop. Books will be available for inspiration.
Towards the end of the session Melanie will demonstrate how to grout a mosaic. You will be provided with sufficient unmixed grout so that you can take away your piece, allow to dry before grouting, and finish at your leisure. Fixings will be provided too.
