Rutland Water Sailing & Watersports

    With one of the largest reservoirs in Europe at its heart, water sports and sailing are key leisure activities in Rutland.

    Whether you’re a novice or have experience, there’s plenty of friendly help and advice to get you out on the magnificent Rutland Water.

    Whitwell Harbour (LE15 8BL) home to Aqua Park, Rutland Belle Cruises, Rutland Cycling and Rutland Watersports:

    Rutland Watersports Centre is a great place to experience sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding or even corporate team building activities. Hire the equipment in an activity session or book professional tuition, there’s something for all ages.

    You can use your own equipment at Whitwell, but a launch permit is needed. Contact Rutland Watersports on 01780 460154.

    There is also leisure clothing and accessories (by brands including Reef, Kangaroo Poo, Off my Head and Dirty Dog) for sale in the well equipped store.  The centre is a RYA and an AALA registered school.

    An array of sailing opportunities at Edith Weston (LE15 8HJ) ;

    Rutland Sailing Club: Offering a wonderful experience similar to estuary sailing, but without problematic tides.  The Club is set in stunning 13 acres of English countryside on the South shore of Rutland Water. It has impressive facilities including seven concrete slipways, with four pontoons and connecting walkways, making launch and recovery of keelboats and cruisers quick and easy. Many say that the outlook at this site offers the best view of Rutland Water. Enjoy club racing and social activities. Professional instruction is available for both adults and younger sailors.

    Rutland Sailing School: Specialises in dinghy and catamaran sailing. The professional staff are trained by the Royal Yachting Association and offer everything from introductory sessions, to personal tuition sessions in your own boat.

    The facilities are shared with Rutland Sailing Club and provide all clients with the excellence both on and off-shore, with opportunity to learn in a friendly club atmosphere.

    Rutland Sailability: provides training, support and equipment to enable people with disabilities to enjoy the challenge of this physical activity in a safe, welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Rutland Sailability have recently been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. Weather permitting Rutland Sailability holds regular sailing sessions on each Thursday (10.00 to 15.00) and Saturday (09.30 to 12.00) from the beginning of April to the end of October.
