The picturesque stone built village of Market Overton is home to a delightful little shop called the The Market Store. When the village lost its Post Office and general store some years ago the villagers decided to do something about it and organised themselves to raise finance and operate a community owned and run general store.
You will find a very wide range of quality products including fresh bread, meat, ham, bacon, sausages, pies & vegetables; dairy products – milk, cheese, butter & eggs; jams, chutneys, honey, chocolate and sweets. Newspapers, magazines and a superb selection of greeting cards are on display. Less exciting, but equally essential for a comfortable life are dry goods, cleaning materials, pharma goods and baby products.
Throughout the year you will find an ever changing selection of garden plants, and information regarding local activities, (for which tickets can be bought). The shop is staffed by local people and volunteers who are highly organised and efficient. Many of the products for sale come from local suppliers. No matter what you need you can probably get it here, including a good selection of wines (the whites are in the chiller cabinet), beer and soft drinks, and the National Lottery.
