Rutland lends itself perfectly to being explored on two wheels
Cycling enthusiasts will already know about the Rutland to Melton International CiCLE Race which takes place in April. This race draws competitors from around Europe and is the biggest single Elite cycle race in the UK. The race starts in Market Place, Oakham and visits various locations throughout the county before ending just over the border in Melton Mowbray.
There’s no need to be a professional cyclist to enjoy cycling in Rutland. Simply cycle for pleasure and enjoy a tranquil ride through winding country lanes or around the scenic shores of Rutland Water.

Cycling around Rutland Water
Visitors are welcome to bring their own bikes and simply set off. However, if you can’t bring your own then don’t worry - it’s easy and convenient to hire one of the many bicycles from Rutland Cycling. Cycling at Rutland Water provides great fun for all the family. With stunning views, a chance to stop at the man-made beach, watch the sailing boats and fishermen, and enjoy a trip to Bugtopia, everyone will sleep soundly after a full day of fresh air and exercise!
The full route around the Rutland Water, including the peninsular is 23 miles, however if you miss the peninsular out it is approximately 17 miles. There are many fabulous rest-stops along the route to stop and have a break, either in a country pub, a handy cafe or, if you've brought your own refreshments, there are no end of great spots to stop and enjoy the views with a picnic!
Rutland Cycling has stores at both Whitwell and Normanton. The store at Whitwell stocks a vast range of cycles for sale and hire for all the family, from kids bikes through to premium road and mountain bikes. The store is now an electric bike centre, offering customers the opportunity to hire or buy the latest e-bike models.
The Giant Store at Normanton offers the latest range of Giant bikes for sale and hire. Both stores feature accessories, clothing and workshops for cycle repairs. Staffed by a dedicated, experienced team who are able to provide all the advice and support you need, 7 days a week.
