Horse riding is an exhilarating way to enjoy the picturesque scenery we have here in Rutland.
We have some of the best horse riding countryside in Europe with numerous private stables and the world famous Burghley Horse Trials that brings equestrian fans from all over the world each year. There are numerous bridleways which wind their way through the county and provide the perfect opportunity for hacking. The tapestry of fields and hedgerows of Rutland provide a perfect backdrop for you to enjoy a chance to unwind and forget about the pressures of life back at home.
The Leicestershire & Rutland Bridleway Association work hard to ensure that there are miles of safe riding in the area. They have an organised program of wonderful rides in beautiful countryside including the opportunity to ride routes such as the Hambleton Bluebells, not usually open to horse riders.The LRBA are also proud of the work they do to help restore ‘lost’ bridleways.
TROT (Toll Ride Off-road Trust) campaign to ensure safety on horse rides by encouraging landowners to give horse riders wider access to safer, off road riding.

Somerby Equestrian Centre was established in 1991 by Gail Stimson. Based in the heart of beautiful countryside they offer off-road hacking from 1 hour to full day rides. Qualified instructors are on hand 7 days a week at this ABRS and BHS approved riding school. With both outdoor and indoor riding facilities, you’re guaranteed a superb riding experience come rain or shine!
Owston Lodge Equestrian Centre is a family run riding centre for people of all ages and abilities. Owston Lodge offer a range of lessons, hacking and liveries with both indoor and outdoor schools. As a Pony Club centre, they run pony camps, pony days and a popular Sunday Club.
Barrow Stables is Rutland’s longest established livery year and offers quality full, part time, DIY and grass livery in a secure horse friendly environment run by Ruth Matthews and her family.

Rutland Riding Club was established in 1968 and has a long history of encouraging horse riding in the county. It has a year round diary of events that include competitions for Dressage and Show Jumping and a number of riding ‘clinics’.
Chestnut Farm Stables serve the equestrian needs of Leicestershire and Rutland and offer an extensive range of riding activities and facilities. Their experienced instructors offer hacking for small groups, day rides, lessons (for children & adults), school holiday activities, pony camps and cross-country lessons.
