How to whip up perfect pancakes using Rutland ingredients

Pancake Day is just around the corner on 16th February! Did you know you can get all the essential ingredients for your pancake batter right here in Rutland?

Flour – Whissendine Windmill

Buy your flour from one of England’s few remaining fully functioning windmills. Built in the 19th  Century, Whissendine Windmill is a fixture on the landscape looking over to Melton Mowbray. You can buy flour of all kinds from bread and pastry flours to oatmeal and spelt flours.

Milk – PrOrganic

Head to Gates Farm Shop for PrOrganic milk, fresh and organic and straight from the vending machine. The organic milk is sold for £1 per litre from the vending machine, which steam-cleans itself after every use, inside the Gates Farm Shop. Specially-designed re-usable glass bottles are also available, costing £2 each.

Eggs – Old Broody’s

Getting fresh eggs couldn’t be easier than Old Broody’s! Simply stop by Oakham train station and make use of the egg vending machine right outside the station entrance. For a tray of 20 eggs, in a box that can be returned to the vending machine, you’ll only need £3. The eggs themselves come from free range chickens just on the border with Leicestershire, in Belton-in-Rutland.
